About Cadenza
CADENZA was born out of a Christmas wish, that several of the members shared, to begin a small ensemble to explore and present a variety of musical styles — from the renaissance to the modern era, both sacred and secular. CADENZA is truly a collective effort, with decisions on repertoire and interpretation being reached by consensus of the singers. Past concerts have included music from early masters of polyphony, to early American songs, to sea song arrangements and modern popular classics. Over the last three years, CADENZA has been invited to participate in the Charlestown concert series twice, and performed for the Roland Park Women’s Club, as well as a self-produced concert at downtown Baltimore’s An Die Musik performance center.
In 2010, CADENZA also presented a concert of historic American music for the Teaching American History program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education at Princeton University, and has been invited to return as part of that program in 2012. CADENZA also may have become the first vocal group to perform inside Baltimore’s historic Shot Tower, when they entertained diners at the kickoff event for the “Phoenix Challenge,” Carroll Museums’ fundraising project to fully restore the unique structure and reopen it to the public. The concert, held September 30, 2011, was a great success.
